Join us as an Anesthesiologist at the Syracuse VA Medical Center located in Syracuse, NY.
Duties may include but are not limited to:
• Provide an academic environment conducive to the training and professionals development of residents rotating through the Internal Medicine/Anesthesia Service.
• Comply with Residency review documentation and ensure all notes and encounters are completed and appropriately documented in accordance with VA standards.
• Perform administrative duties relative to documentation of resident training as required and directed by the VA Chief of Service or designated representative.
• Provide clinical direction and oversight of residents/fellows consistent with current accreditation guidelines.
• Appropriately document medical records.
• 90% of time providing direct patient care.
• Provide anesthesia care within scope of practice/privileging.
• Provide clinical anesthesia services for inpatient and outpatient procedures approximately 10 cases per day.
• Intraoperative and postoperative follow-up.
• Provide clinical care of patients undergoing electroconvulsive therapy and diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the cardiac catheterization laboratory, electrophysiology, gastrointestinal and radiological suites.
• Provide coverage as needed for patients in the surgical intensive care, short stay unit, acute pain management services, diagnostic trans esophageal echocardiography for medical and surgical patients, and emergency airway management.
• Provide consultative services at bedside and in e-consults.
• Provide discharge education and follow-up instructions to patients.
• Attend staff meetings as required.
Period of Performance: 1-year base 7/1/2025-6/30/2026 w/ 4 12-month renewal options.
Schedule: Full-time, 7A-3:30P Mon-Fri. Call required weeknights, weekends, and holidays. Part-time and back-up/PRN schedules also available. All personnel, regardless of status are expected to share in call duties.
Qualifications:
• Education. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
• Licensure and certification. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. BC/BE by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA). BLS or ACLS, DEA required.
• Experience. 3-5 years of relevant experience preferred.
• English Language Proficiency: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
• Subject to background/security investigation.
• All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
• Ability to pass pre-employment physical examination.
• Complete an online onboarding process.
• May be required to complete a probationary period.
• Willingness to comply with Department of Veterans Affairs vaccination programs for seasonal influenza and COVID-19.
• Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
